Programming Assistant
Part-time | $15/hr | 15-20 hours/week
Required: Sundays, Mondays, and flexible weekly hours (including 1 evening per week)
Henry's Books and our nonprofit foundation are growing, and we're looking for a Programming Assistant to help us bring bookish joy and meaningful literary programming to the Spearfish community. This is a flexible, mission-driven role with a mix of event support, community and author engagement, bookselling, and behind-the-scenes help.
Who We're Looking For
You're a people person who loves books (and loves talking about books), pays attention to details and organization, and knows how to warmly welcome anyone who walks through the door. You're comfortable talking to authors and community members alike-and you can keep things running smoothly during events and store shifts. You don't need years of experience in nonprofits or bookselling-we're happy to train someone with the right attitude and heart for the work.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assisting with event setup, cleanup, and hosting duties
- Working 1 weekly evening event (timing will vary)
- Staffing the bookstore on Sundays and Mondays
- Occasionally processing freight
- Distributing posters, flyers, and promo materials around town
- Helping coordinate authors, volunteers, and community partners
- Taking book orders and supporting bookselling at events
- Attending 1 weekly planning session with the store owner (mornings only)
- Optional: light social media support or press release drafting
- Occasional organizing tasks using Slack or Asana (we'll train you!)
You'll Need To:
- Be available Sundays, Mondays, and approximately one evening per week
- Lift 20-30 lb boxes and move event tables or chairs
- Communicate clearly, kindly, and confidently
- Talk about books like you mean it-because you do!
- Have great attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
Why You'll Love It Here:
We're a small but mighty bookstore with a newly added nonprofit arm, building a literary hub in the Spearfish Community. You'll be part of something meaningful: making books more accessible, hosting literary events, and helping our space feel like a second home for readers and writers alike.
No drama, no red tape-just good books, kind people, and a job that makes a difference.
